I share your sadness. When I was still in college in New Jersey I used to save money to go to the Met to enjoy opera at its best. I particularly remember the crystal like voice of Pavarotti filling the house with unrivaled ease. I remember him singing “La Fille du Regiment” with Dame Joan Sutherland who was instrumental in the advance of Luciano’s career. By the way I am pretty sure that Luciano sang “La Fille…” in his American debut with Florida Grand Opera. His “Nessun Dorma” in Turandot, his “La Donna e Mobile” and “Questa Quella” in Rigoletto, his “Che gelida manina” as Rodolfo in La Boheme, his Caravadossi in “Tosca” and all his other triumphant roles will live with us forever.
    Luciano “Grazie per tutta l’eternita”.

Although I know very little about opera, I still have to remember to breathe when I hear him sing.

Max, what a beautiful tribute. I am touched by your words.
