“Why Here?”

hiBack in 1990, while working in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale, I always thought that this would be a great place to live. We would be close to the Beach, drive a short distance to Hollywood, FL (where we were living at the time) or Boca. There were restaurants like the Downtowner, the Floridian, Mangos, Mancini. There were also restaurants and shops at the Las Olas Riverfront including a Movie Theatre. On the 1st Sunday of the month the Sun Trust Jazz Brunch is held. Las Olas Blvd closes down for its annual Art Shows, Christmas on Las Olas, Wine Festival and more. My thoughts, so many activities that you could walk to if you lived here. Back then, no high-rise condos existed. Fast forward to 2001- I was reading the newspaper about a lottery to take place in order to purchase a condominium called the Watergarden in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Scott and I saw this as our chance to be part of the new downtown revival. The developer, Minto, set up a huge party at the Broward Convention Center. You gave a check for $10,000. If they picked your name, you got preference for the unit you wanted. Needless to say, our name was not picked. We were determined to live in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale. When the developer processed all the potential buyers, those people not choosen, were able to purchase, on a first- come first- serve basis a unit before a public offering. The day arrived and we knew we had to be early to be first in line. Of course, there was already 10 people ahead of us . You may think- that’s not too bad, however, the process took so long, we were at the Minto sales office for 8 hours. We did get our luxurious Downtown Ft. Lauderdale condo. In March, 2004, Scott and I moved into the Watergarden. We were the first building to be located on the New River. Now downtown Ft. Lauderdale is flourishing with many condo buildings such as the Las Olas River House, the Las Olas Grand, Nu River Landings, the Symphony, the Esplanade, Las Olas by the River, the Waverly, Nola Lofts, Sole, Sailboat at Village Bend. There are also many new projects along the Beach area such as the Las Olas Beach Club, St. Regis, the Atlantic, future Trump projects and more. For the first time this year- the Seminole Hard Rock “Winterfest Boat Parade” on December 15, will travel down the New River starting at the Broward Performing Arts Center. From the Balcony of our Condo, this will be a sure delight and this is why “We Are Here”. Our motto is “We Live, Work and Play in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale”. We will find you a new home here or in the surrounding areas. Our website www.LivingAtLasOlas.com. Check out all downtown activities at www.goriverwalk.com.
