Peanut butter jar and golf balls

hiWhen things in your life seem too much to handle and 24 hours in a day are just not enough… remember the peanut butter jar and the golf balls. Take a very large (and empty) peanut butter jar and fill it with golfballs. Add a couple handfuls of pebbles. Shake it gently so the pebbles to roll into the open spaces. Add whatever sand the jar will hold…. letting it sift down and fill the voids. Then pour two glasses of wine … onto the sand.
The jar represents your life… and the golf balls represent the important things: family, health, friends … things that if everything else was lost, and nothing else remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles represent other things that matter… for example your house, your job, your belongings. The sand is everything else… the small stuff. If you put the sand in first, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same holds true for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you won’t have room for the things that really matter. Play with your children, take care of your health, have dinner with your partner. There’s always time to do the laundry or fix the disposal. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.
Take care of those golfballs. Play another round. And no matter how full your life appears to be, there’s always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend.

Of course, if you vibrate the whole shebang, the system will sort itself out–smallest particles to the bottom, biggest particles to the top.
