What’s Cool This Weekend in South Florida?

hi
Aaaaah, South Florida in the fall. Every day gets a little bit cooler. As it gets easier to keep cool, it’s always easy to be cool. What to do? Where to go?
Get out there and support the ‘Fins!! The once Perfect Season Team that is still winless for this season, the 0-6 Miami DOLPHINS, play the thus-far undefeated 6-0 New England Patriots, (a moment of silence for all of us who remember back to ‘72 when everyone in South Florida drove around crazy-happy honking and waving towels . . . sniffle) Sunday 10/21 at 1:00 PM at Dolphin Stadium. Will the Dolphins be able to shut the Patriots down and keep them from ruining the Dolphin’s record as the only team to have a perfect season (and go on to win the Super Bowl)? C’mon Cleo . . . make history! Need tickets?
Be “green”, support Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden as they hold their “Rare Event”, an auction of rare plants and contemporary art. Tickets are $75 for Fairchild Members, $125 to the public. Proceeds benefit Fairchild’s programs in the Caribbean, and you can help to keep a rare plant from becoming extinct.
The excitement begins on Saturday, October 20, 2007, 7:00 -10:00 PM
7:00 PM Cocktail Reception
7:00 to 8:30 PM Auction Preview and Silent Auction
8:30 PM Live Auction (commences promptly)
at the Fairchild’s Garden House and Lawn • 10901 Old Cutler Road, Miami (where Kendall Drive dead ends at Old Cutler, turn right, Fairchild will be on your left a little ways down). Parking is free. To purchase tickets or for sponsorship information, please contact Mari Novo at 305.667 1651 ext. 3357 or e-mail her at mnovo@fairchildgarden.org (photo of Euphorbia Punicea from the Fairchild web site)
Go to Joe’s . . . a Miami original, Joe’s Stone Crab reopened October 12th! Yay! World’s Best Key Lime Pie. [And when you’re being cool in Vegas, guess what–they have a Joe’s there in the Forum Shops at Caesar’s!] Here’s the recipe if you want to try to make your own pie (whether you use real Key limes is up to you). What makes this pie a stand-out is not only the taste of the pie itself but the combination of the pie with the incredible crust! Did I mention the World’s Best Cole Slaw too?
