Things That Go Bump in the Night: Scary Florida Wildlife
Categories: Life & Style, Pinecrest, Real Estate News
hi
If you are new to Florida, I am sure our wildlife may have you wondering what you have gotten yourself into. Although pink flamingos have long been the image for Florida wildlife, we have some scary looking critters here.
I spotted this handsome fellow along the linear park on Red Road in Pinecrest.
I will never forget the time I took a couple, recently relocated from Boston, to Fairchild Tropical Garden. As I was talking and showing them all the beautiful foliage the woman suddenly grabbed my arm and practically climbed up my back. About five Jesus lizards, which run upright on their hind legs, darted right in front of us and ran across the water. As her eyes followed their path, she focused on a pair of huge iguanas. “I feel like I’m in Jurassic Park!” she exclaimed. “Welcome to Florida,” I replied.

That’s the cutest lil’ lizzard I’ve ever seen
I feed several stray cats, as well as baby possums…
Up here in Broward we see many wild creatures. Moscovy ducks are always near a canal, as well as large white egrets and blue herons. Smaller white birds with very long beaks always appear after it rains. And those little lizards or geccos run ramped through the foliage. Truly a treat for the nature lover!
Monica,
I am guessing you are referring to the Jesus lizard. The other guy was huge! I couldn’t even get his tail to fit into my blog picture.
