Home Staging Tip 101: Remove the Clutter!
Categories: Real Estate News, Selling Real Estate
hiIf you are selling your home in today’s real estate market, Home Staging is a crucial element in capturing the attention of every potential buyer.
One of the key elements in Home Staging is to remove the clutter, and I know first hand how much one can accumulate over the years of living in a home. If I were to put my house on the market today, I would have about half a garage full of boxes of picture frames, knick knacks, and all kinds of stuff that we picked up at art fairs and outlet stores throughout the years.
It’s important to have the right mindset when taking on this task, because many of the items you will box up will have sentimental meaning to you. You must put that aside, and remember that potential buyers will have to envision their tastes and lifestyle in your home, and that is very difficult to do if you have too much of your stuff throughout the home. So get out the boxes and start packing!
To help you through this de-cluttering process, follow these 3 rules:
- Remove all the extra stuff and keep the decor relative to the size of the space you are working with. Each room in the home should have the right balance of space and decor. Be careful not to remove too much stuff, as you can end up creating a room looking bare and unappealing.
- De-clutter everywhere, including the closets. This is a great time to donate the things you haven’t worn in years. Closet space is important to buyers, so it’s critical to have a well organized and clutter-free closet, regardless if you have a walk-in closet or not.
- Once the clutter is gone, don’t be afraid to re-arrange the existing decor and furniture to make the space work. Remember, it’s about creating a warm an inviting space that is clutter free, so let your creativity flow.
Check out the photos below of one of my customer’s Family Room. Clutter was removed from the coffee table, the drapes were taken down, the black chair recliner was donated, and a portion of the wrap-around couch was re-positioned, creating a warm and inviting space. Home Staging, coupled with the right marketing strategies positioned this home in the market and the home sold!
To assist with the Home Staging process, I have partnered with national television designer Martin Amado, and offer my customers a free Home Staging Consultation. Martin is the host/designer of Room For Improvement on WSVN 7 News, a FOX Miami affiliate, and also has been a guest designer on HGTV’s Decorating Cents.
