hiThe 134th Kentucky Derby was a sad commentary on the fate of animals in sports. Through years of inbreeding to create faster more efficient horses at the expense of strong legs and strong ankles, a great filly died unnecessarily at the track. Incredibly a filly was running against colts which in itself is seldom done, again endangering the animal. It is time that horse racing had rules to ensure safety of these gorgeous animals. Yesterday was a great day for Big Brown but a bittersweet day for horse racing.
