Discover the bounty of our “free” market!

hiWe have all heard of flea markets and farmer’s markets, but my customer and I have discovered the bounty of the “free” market!
Denise and I are going to find her first home somewhere between Miami Shores and South Miami and we spend long days looking at new listings, finding sweet pockets of homes in unexpected territories. It could be hot, tiring and disappointing because we have seen some real dogs out there, but we have come up with a great way to make the days fun and exciting…
Always with permission, mind you, we have filled the trunk of my car with produce and plants we can eat and grow at home! Green mangos, water-filled coconuts, ripe and green plantains, cuttings from a gorgeous red passion-flower vine, nopales, and a variety of arelia I’ve not seen before Saturday have made their way back to Coconut Grove with us.
When we finally get her settled into her new home, I’ll miss the search, not only for the right home, but for fun free finds to be had if you’re in the right place at the right time!

This is what makes the hunt for the home exciting! I think we have forgotten some of the joy of looking for the right home…plus the added stuff you are bring back!
I have already made a delicious salad dressing from the bananas, and I am eager for the mangoes to ripen for fresh mango sorbet. If I get impatient for the mangos, I’ll make chutney with them!
