Which Neighborhoods Can Help You Save Money On Gas?
Categories: Life & Style, Real Estate News
hi
I spoke to my sister who lives in Italy today and she put our grumblings over gas prices in the U.S. into perspective. She said they are almost at $10.00 per gallon!!!!! I thought we had it bad when I filled up my car the other day with gas at $3.85 per gallon. Given the fact that all economies are now global and China and India have a growing appetite for oil, these gas prices, or something close to them, are probably here to stay unless there is some major breakthrough in more efficient systems, alternative energy sources (don’t even get me started on the brilliance of using food to fuel our automobiles), or oil reserve found.
So what do these ramblings over gas prices have to do with real estate….lots! There are ways that you can cut down on gas and energy consumption by choosing where you live.
- The obvious one is to live close to where you work so you don’t have to commute so far.
- Another obvious one, live close to public transportation…not an easy thing to do in South Florida.
- Choose bicycle and pedestrian friendly neighborhoods (these include areas with sidewalks and designated bike trails as Florida drivers aren’t known as being friendly to anybody)
- If you have children, make sure their activities, schools and doctors are close by. You may not be able to walk to all of them, but at least you can cut down on your driving.
Which South Florida neighborhoods meet most of these criteria? Believe it or not, we have lots of them.
- Coral Gables
- Downtown Miami
- Miami Beach
- Coconut Grove
- South Miami
- High Pines
- Downtown Dadeland
- Aventura
