Weston in Florida is Moving Ahead from Cans to Carts

hiThe City of Weston will soon look nicer, neat and organized thanks to the New Automated Curbside Garbage Collection.
- * No more open garbage cans.
- * No more ripped plastic bags.
- * No more litter caused by ducks, birds and dogs.
Beginning September 29, 2008, the City of Weston in conjunction All Service Refuse will change the regular garbage cans for one of the most advanced systems, known as “Automated Curbside Collection System”.
The new wheeled carts will be supplied by mid September, along with detailed information of the new system. How it will work? Residents will place the new cart at the curb during collection days; a collection truck equipped with a robotic arm will lift the cart and empty the garbage. Then the cart will be placed back upright with the lid closed.
Carts of 96-gallons size will be providing at no cost, for each home with curbside collection. Weston’s residents have the option to get a smaller 64-gallon size cart by calling at (954) 327-9522 before July 1, 2008. Although, the 96-gallon cart can hold a considerable amount of garbage; you may get an extra cart of 96 or 64 gallons for $62.00.
Old cans can be disposed, when you get your new carts. In order to dispose the old cans, it must be placed in the curbside empty and marked with an X. They may be collected by All Service Refuse or during bulk pick-up. Remember, after October 1, garbage place in cans will not be collected. Garbage and recycling collection will remain at the same schedule, and you will keep use the same bins for recycling.
The City of Weston is also moving ahead in the real estate market. In the last 90 days, 174 single family homes have been sold. The average price per square feet was $182 and the average days on the market was 98 days.
