hiToday in honor of all military Veterans and Active duty personnel I want to share the vest that was made for my father, Srgt. Bernard J. Smetanka USMC WWII. My father was a product of the GREAT DEPRESSION. He made a deal with the recruiter that if he didn’t gainĀ 20 pounds to reach the USMC minimum weight by the end of boot camp they could discharge him! There was no obesity problem in the U.S. then (he was skinny). He gained 26 pounds to surpass the minimum required weight and went on to serve in the Pacific campaign. Wounded twice he survived to enjoy the freedoms he fought for. From one veteran to another veteran I salute my father, my brother and all of the protectors of our freedom on this VETERAN’S DAY!!

Marty,
Thanks for sharing this article with us. Angelica, for school, was asked to write about someone in the family that served in the armed forces. She wrote about Uncle Bernie because we are all so proud of him and what he did in the service for our country. We are honored to have such a great person as your father in this family!
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks for blogging on your dad. Thanks to you, your Dad and all the other great men who have served. Love the Vest.
Thank you! As this country goes through the next few years and we suffer hardships that we are not used to, I hope that all people who live in the U.S.A. wake up each mornig knowing and being thankful that they live in the best country on earth.
