The Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety Department has passed the test! They have received the prestigious certification from the State of Florida that qualifies them as an official State Fire Academy. The Fire Rescue Training Center is located at 3400 North 56th Avenue. In addition to becoming an State Fire Academy, they are also qualified to offer an ISO Class 1 rating that provides training within the City. This extra bonus diminishes wear and tear on vehicles and equipment that would normally occur if the firefighters had to travel outside of the area for training.
Remember the story a while back when 2 workers had to be extricated from inside the Hollywood Water tower after being seriously injured when their platform failed? This new State Fire Academy is currently training fire personnel to assist in such Special Operations training that was required for that rescue.
The Hollywood Fire Rescue Department has quite an impressive team. They are partnered with the FBI, Memorial Regional Health Care System, Broward College to offer in-house training and keep the state-mandated re-certification costs to a minimum.
