Following a $25 billion legal settlement, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will propose the first set of national standards for the mortgage servicing industry. Under the proposal, loan servicers would be required to evaluate a home owner’s application for loan assistance within 30 days and foreclosing on a property would be prohibited until a final decision has been reached on a borrower’s application for assistance.
