While speaking to a friend this evening she mentioned that she needed to buy a new dryer because the one she has wasn’t drying clothes as fast as it used to. I asked if she had ever had the dust vent cleaned and she had no clue of what I was talking about. We live in Weston, in Arvida built homes, and the exhaust vent for the dryer needs to be cleaned at least once a year. I’ve been told that clogged exhaust vents can cause fires, not sure about that. If you notice that your clothes are taking a lot longer to dry or if when you open the dryer door there is a huge release of moisture, there’s your clue. If you’re able to access the exhaust vent on the outside of the house check it for lint build up. I clean the screen inside the dryer after each use and am still amazed at how much lint makes it out of the dryer and into the vent.

This is another topic, but someone should invent a use for all that lint.
