Today is the last day, from noon to 9:00 pm, to get in on this annual free festival on the BHollywood Beach Boardwalk. Last night, I was about to go to a movie with my friends but, fortunately, the tickets were all sold out, and that’s how we ended up on the Boardwalk, along with hundreds of other festival goers. I say fortuantely, because we might have missed out on a really fun evening on the beach, with live music, fresh seafood and local artists displaying their crafts all along the boardwalk. The jazz beat from the band playing on the bandshell put everyone in a lighter mood and the jewellery displays were great: chanel, coach, pandoras, david yurman, lots of knock offs. But even better were the originals, rings necklaces and bracelets, in platinum, wood, and silver, one-of-a-kinds and some vintage. And bumping into other friends was an added bonus. I plan on taking my daughter back this afternoon for the kids activities in the Boardwalk’s Charnow Park. See you there!

Buying Floreclosures in South Florida?

The government wants to be your partner. Just as Congress is rushing to announce a national bailout package, Bush has already signed a bill that will provide $540 million to the state of Florida as “community development block grants”. Florida has the highest percentage of foreclosures in the country, with about 200,000 properties. with this number expected to grow. So, with the idea of helping the communities with the highest need, the government is distributing this money to various neighborhoods in Dade and Broward, the City of Miami receiving $62 MM. The City has said it plans to spend 50% as equity sharing with low-income buyers. Another 25% for buying homes for rehab or demolition.

The City of Hollywood is to receive$7.5 million. How do you qualify? How will all this money be doled out?

No details yet, but then we don’t know how the rest of the $300 billion is to be loaned out to at risk homeowners in the latest government backed program, not to mention the potential new $700 billion being discussed by Congress. If all this doesn’t kick start the turn around in the housing market……….

The Summit Towers: Solid Investment in Florida Condos

In my last blog about foreclosures in South Florida, I talked about solid buildings where buyers could feel confident that their condo association was not suffering a liquidity crisis, like so much of the rest of the economy. Real estate is looking better and better as a safe place for your money: bricks and mortar will outlast the demise of some of the biggest names in our financial institutions.

The Summit Towers in Hollywood Florida is one such property. My next blog will present some units that are currently available in this oceanfront condo.
