Hurricane Preparedness … (Do YOU need help?)

Sep 6th 2008
hi

Whether South Florida will be hammered by the storm … or merely brushed by the outer bands…  is unclear.   Taking Mother Nature seriously is something we  get better at… one hurricane at a time .  Home Depot and Publix are packed with South Floridians preparing for Hurricane Ike.  While some of us will hunker down alone… others will reach out …    weathering the storm with friends and family

Time running out on the My Safe Florida Home Grant

May 19th 2008
hi

My Safe Florida Home Program is a state run program that offers eligible homeowners free inspections from qualified hurricane mitigation inspectors. Homeowners can use these inspections to lower their homeowners insurance and address problem areas in the home. They also have Grant Money available if you have purchased Hurricane shutters within the past year.

Good News for Homeowners

May 4th 2008
hi

The Florida Legislature approved a bill that will freeze Citizens Property Insurance’s rates for 1 more year.
According to the Miami Herald, “Although homeowners won’t see any immediate rate relief, lawmakers hailed the bill’s increased consumer protections, such as more notice on cancellations and the ability to sue an insurer if the company doesn’t pay an

Mar 10th 2008
hi

When I received a letter from my mortgage company requesting a $1400 cushion for my escrow, I got busy. I contacted www.MySafeFlorida.org, specifically My SafeFloridaHome — and had a mitigation inspector come to my house — a free inspection. He handed me his report which I promptly sent to my homeowner’s insurance

Is My Home Properly Insured?

Oct 4th 2007
hi

I just got my homeowner policy renewal last week and figured I would actually read it this year. Have you read your policy in the last several years?

Sep 27th 2007
hi

As a Miami native, I spent the majority of my younger life in the Kendall area, west of US-1. I now live and work in Coconut Grove and love it, but in reference to insurance, being east of US-1 has been a bit of a culture shock.
Since the move, my insurance premiums have

Local Effects of Property Tax Reform

Sep 1st 2007
hi

Well, I received my property tax notice last week and surprise! my property tax bills are not going down significantly (neither did my insurance by the way). I can’t complain as I am one of the lucky homesteaded property owners who defied the “average-time -in-a-house-is 5-7 years-rule” and have been in mine for
