Music for your ears and soul provided by DJ Jody McDonald and Dj Richard Vasquez, old school style reminiscent of those good old days.

Get there early, 6pm and bring the kids and make it a pizza night, Andiamo Brick Oven Pizza (their sister restaurant) is right across the road and you can get take out and eat it here. The kids will be entertained playing in the courtyard, terrorizing the coy in the pond, swinging in the love seats, bouncing on the cushions or enjoying one of the many board games on hand. If they are really lucky, they might get bubbles as well!

Meanwhile, the parents, or rest of the grown ups can chat and chill with a fabulous cocktail or two. May I recommend the Mexican Sidecar. Light fare is available from their menu, but as I mentioned, if your tummy calls, you have Adiamo’s pizza, Sushi Siam and Soyka’s to feed you.

As the sun sets, and the courtyard is lit, the tempo is taken up a notch. MC Shelley Novak will gracefully and humorously entertain you into the night.

Dancing is allowed and encouraged, should the mood take you, but laughter is required!

It is the perfect place to pop in, stay for a while, or stay all night (till 11pm).

It’s the 21st year for this venerable Ft Lauderdale arts festival and this year’s poster (which can be purchased on site for $10) is an example of the art that will be shown by the local artists themselves.

It’s on for 2 days from 10 AM to 5 pm and, with all the local restaurants and boutiques as the backdrop, it’s a great family outing.

Owner Kyra White is as lovely and inviting as her business.  From the minute Bernardo greets you at the front door to the moment you see the beautifully presented homemade desserts to the first whiff of your exotic loose leaf tea - you will be transported to another time and place.

I say fortuantely, because we might have missed out on a really fun evening on the beach, with live music, fresh seafood and local artists displaying their crafts all along the boardwalk.  The jazz beat from the band playing on the bandshell put everyone in a lighter mood and the jewellery displays were great:  chanel, coach, pandoras, david yurman, lots of knock offs. But even better were the originals, rings necklaces and bracelets,  in platinum, wood, and silver, one-of-a-kinds and some vintage. And bumping into other friends was an added bonus.  I plan on taking my daughter back this afternoon for the kids activities in the Boardwalk’s Charnow Park. See you there!

But as great as it was and still is, well, the weather is something to be reckoned with. Long  dark , cold and raining winter days and nights still are a part of my memory. And so, to this day, I still marvel at the fact I live in South Florida where I do not own a pair of closed toed shoes, wouldn’t put a coat on my back and have the luxury of swimming outdoors at 10 in the evening.

To My  “Marvel” List  I now add  an oceanfront  restaurant located on Deerfield Beach. JB’s on the Beach  is located just north of Hillsboro Beach on A1A. .I met a friend there for drinks and a lite dinner there last week.  We were lucky, we arrived around 4:30 in the afternoon, just before the crowd so we were able to find a sit right next to the path leading to the beach. The food was elegantly presented, the drinks cool and relaxing and the  breeze from the Atlantic Ocean  was simply sweet. This is a place I certainly will return to, might even bring my sister from Wales when she visits.

I pinch myself to this day …. while others prepare for a long winter filled with snow and rain, I am off to buy yet another pair of sandals. And so here’s a big CHEERS to My “Marvel” List ….

Have you ever been upset when you are pulling the aluminum foil off of that stupid cardboard roll and the entire thing, meaning the roll of whatever it is, comes out in your hand before you can tear/rip it off?

Voila: Nearly every container of aluminum foil or plastic wrap (those things that come in a round roll and a square elongated box that you use in the kitchen) has little indentations on each end in the shape of a diamond. It does not matter if it is labeled/marketed as a major brand name or something you bought at a drug store as a private label, there most likely will be an indentation on both ends.

Has anyone ever told you what they are for? Nobody told me. Push your thumb in the middle of the indentation on both ends and it will prevent the ‘roll’ of whatever it is, from ‘popping’ out of the box and driving you crazy.

I do not know one adult that has not pulled on a roll of aluminum foil and ended up with the entire roll in their hand…all they wanted was a piece of aluminum foil!

This is not something exclusive, but it is something they do not tell you about. I think it is because they, meaning the manufacturers, think you will get so ticked off that you will throw the entire thing away and open a new one.

My suggestion to you: go punch all of your foils, plastic wraps, etc. in both ends, right now…it will make your life easier when you get ready to use them.

(I did not believe it in the beginning either, but it does work and those triangles are there if you look for them.)
