I was just reading some articles at AOL Travel and I noticed that Miami Beach has made it into their Ten Best American beaches list. That’s not surprising at all to those of us who live here, we constantly see a steady stream of tourists from all over the world and that is a constant reminder of how popular Miami Beach is. But I thought it was interesting that after all these years of being among the most visited Beaches in the world, never mind America, Miami is still among the best.

What surprised me is that is made it into a list with so many quiet beach towns. Miami Beach is, after all, primarily a busier beach town than most of those that made it in the top ten, which may be why Miami just made this ranking, coming in at number ten on the list. But, when it comes to an awesome combination of beautiful beaches where you can relax and soak in the sun’s rays and at the same time, enjoy a sizzling night-time scene, few places in the US can match Miami Beach. But, to be sure, it’s probably the astounding mix of restaurants, night clubs, cafes and bars that attract the majority of folks who come to Miami Beach for vacation. I can’t imagine too many other beachfront towns in the US that offers such a varied array of dining, and entertainment choices.

However, the true heart of Miami Beach has to be the crystal blue waters and its miles of white sand beaches. After all, that is why people go on vacation to a beach town in the first place, to spend time at the beach. And, when it comes to beautiful beaches, Miami Beach has some of the best in the world.

So after further thought, it isn’t surprising that Miami Beach is still considered among the top 10 in the US.

Good Neighbor and Giving Tree Awards 2009 : Key Biscayne

Last week I attended one of those events that just send you home with a smile on your face. Every year, the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce, pays tribute to students and teachers within the Key Biscayne community that standout for their outstanding personal spirit and who go above and beyond in helping others. This year’s Good Neighbor and Giving Tree Awards luncheon , that took place at “The Link” in Crandon Golf of Key Biscayne, brought together a mix of proud parents, honored student and exceptional teachers. Local business owners who supported this annual event were also invited to present awards and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Events like these not only shines the light on those awarded but they also inspire us to help more and be a better member of our community. I congratulate those awarded, their proud parents, as well as the honored Teachers and Principals who set such a great example to our future generation.

Runway Goes to the Dogs for Pawpurrazzi

We were honored to be invited and to participate in this fantastic event to help support the Humane Society of Greater Miami Adopt-A-Pet second annual event at Jungle Island. Jon and I, personally want to thank all of these great people and sponsors who got together for this great event and raised more than $375,000 for more than 200 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens cared for each day at Soffer and Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach.

The Humane Society of Greater Miami Adopt-A-Pet has been helping homeless animals in Miami-Dade County since 1936 and is dedicated to placing every dog and cat in their care into a loving home, and to promote responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs.

Living in South Miami, High Pines and Coral Gables -St. Thomas Episcopal Day School

One of the truly amazing things of the South Miami, High Pines and Coral Gables area are the excellent elementary schools….One of them, St. Thomas which is located at the intersection of Red Road (SW 57 Ave.) & Kendall Dr. (SW 88 St.), recently had its annual Auction/Dance…. The evening was a resounding success with over 400 guests attending its “Hawaiian Breezes” party…There were over 500 items auctioned off including a ride on the world famous Goodyear blimp…. St. Thomas is over 50 years old, has 425 students enrolled in grades from pre-kindergarten thru 5th, and a staff of almost 70…. How to Lock Your Car & Why???

Last week, I went to the Pembroke Gardens Shops, parked, locked my car, and went back like 10 minutes later and found that someone had gotten into my car, and stolen my laptop computer with no signs of my car being broken.

Can you imagine how much information had there? I feel so bad, how come I forget to lock my car? Almost impossible.

I called the police and filed a report, and the police told me that there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your key-chain locking device.

They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are
going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and have a few minutes
to steal and run. The police officer advice to manually lock your car door-by
hitting the lock button inside the car, that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim it will not be you.

When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting, it does not send
the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your key
chain, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be stolen.
Something totally new to us and real!

Be aware of this and please pass this note on. Just think, how many times we all
lock our doors with our remote? Just to be sure, we remembered to lock
them, and bingo someone has our code, and whatever was in the car can be stolen.

I always like to talk about the local stores I shop at frequently especially if they are owned by friends…. I have known Isabel Merritt the owner of “Isabel, Fine Home Accessories” of 7334 Red Road, South Miami for more years than I can count… Isabel’s store, which has been in operation for 16 years, is having its ANNUAL SALE this Friday March 20th and Saturday March 21 from 9:00am to 5:30 pm each day…. If you need to purchase decorative home accessories or fabulous and unique gifts, I would not miss this sale…..Of course the added plus is Isabel who is really nice to work with…..
