Living in South Miami, High Pines/Ponce Davis & South Coral Gables-Miss Val’s Beat

TK Heatley

I was talking with Miss Val when Jessica Hall & John Janette happened to walk by. John runs" town kitchen & bar" which is around the corner from the Blue Mall at 7301 SW 57 Court in South Miami. Town, as we all know it, is a restaurant not to be missed because the food is great and the ambience not to be beaten. John mentioned that Town has been very busy even in our hot summer. Friday night with...Continue Reading!

New Listing In High Pines

Riley Smith

Homes don't come on the market with much frequency in the small subdivision of High Pines so I like to write about them when they do.  This $2,050,000 home located on SW 76th Street has just been listed for sale.  The home offers 5,568 square feet of living space on a 12,500 square foot lot with 7 bedrooms, and 7 baths.  This home is the largest and highest priced property currently on the market in High Pines.  Broker is Jorge L. Besu.    To...Continue Reading!

Living in South Miami, High Pines/Ponce Davis & South Coral Gables- Why is Sunset Elementary Forgetting About The Safety Of Their Kids

TK Heatley

Traffic and children is an unfortunate problem at any school, but it has escalated to a new level at Sunset Elementary in High Pines, Miami, Fl. , and the principal, Dr. Leyte-Vidal does not even wish to discuss it. Traffic builds up each day on School House Road and SW 74 St. which is an uncomfortable but tolerable fact of life for the neighbors. The real problem is the problem of parking on both sides  (yes on) of narrow SW...Continue Reading!

Living in South Miami, High Pines/Ponce Davis & South Coral Gables- Two New Listings

TK Heatley

I visited 2 new listings, 7800 SW 53 Ave. (High Pines) & 6825 Almansa St.(Coral Gables Riviera), in today's broker open houses. Both homes were built in 1953 and both are in desirable neighborhoods about a mile from each other. There are 2 major differences 1) 6825 Almansa St. is larger at 1,912 sq. ft. versus 1,646 sq. ft. for 7800 SW 53 Ave. &  2) 6825 Almansa St. has been redone and looks fresh and livable while 7800 SW...Continue Reading!

Call It the Dante Fascell Park or Epiphany Area, It’s All Beautiful South Miami

Beth Kipnis

Enough cannot be said about using a local specialist when deciding where your next home will be located. Around here there are differences within small geographic areas that will influence your decisions, and if you are new to the area you're going to need help! South Miami has so many great neighborhoods, each with its own character, and one that I think has a great location and value is the area south of SW 80 Street down to Dante Fascell Park,...Continue Reading!

Living in South Miami, High Pines/Ponce Davis & South Coral Gables- Twilight Run

TK Heatley

Last night South Miami's premier running and exercise store, Foot works, held their annual Twilight Run through South Miami. The weather cooperated with clouds but no rain, but it was a a typically hot and humid  summer evening as evidenced by these pictures of runners at the finish line.. After the run I went with my wife Susan, son James, and brother-in-law Thomas Taulbee for dinner at the new 72nd Bar and  Grill located at 5861 Sunset Drive South Miami....Continue Reading!

Living In South Miami, High Pines/Ponce Davis & South Coral Gables- Foreclosure Action On 5100 Sw 73 Terr

TK Heatley

5100 SW 73 Terr (seen here in 3 month old photos) has been a problem for the neighborhood since the builder abandoned the incomplete residence over a year ago. Apparently the builder has been fighting Total Bank's foreclosure action without maintaining the house and yard. Who is suffering from this ? Obviously the neighbors who are faced on a daily basis with the over grown yard which is not only distasteful to look at, but is a breeding ground for...Continue Reading!

Living in South Miami, High Pines/Ponce Davis & South Coral Gables- Trattoria Sole-The First Of The Really Good Restaurants In South Miami

TK Heatley

January 1997 is a red letter month in the history of restaurants in downtown South Miami because that is the month  Maurizio Farinelli opened Trattoria Sole at 5894 Sunset Drive. Opening a quality restaurant in South Miami in 1997 must have taken a lot of internal fortitude as South Miami had been a graveyard for restaurants for as long as I can remember. But, needless to say, Maurizio recognized the need and had the ability to open and run a...Continue Reading!
